N-no, it's not fair... You can't be here, too. you can't. How did you--

[A chair clatters to the floor as Neil backs up into it; he grunts a little as he trips over it, keeps going. Obviously whoever he's talking to, he doesn't want to be anywhere near them. He pauses for a moment; but no other voice is audible.]

I'm not going to-- don't come any closer-- I won't drop out. I don't want to, and they need me, and you haven't done anything for me and how could you even say that, after what happened? This is all I've ever wanted to do, why won't you understand...

[His voice drops nearly to a whisper, but he sounds much bolder, much more sure of himself.]

You can't make me give it up. I won't. My friends here won't let you-- you can't make me do anything!

I won't!!


[ooc; guess who was in Neil's living room this morning. ;____; as long as he gets the gist of this being a curse he'll be fine to perform later. if a little freaked out. SO PERFECT BRB WEEPING WITH JOY]

After the encouragement he'd gotten from Rosella over the Network, Todd was feeling much better. Add to that the fact that he'd begun to suspect that it was a curse, and his mood has greatly improved. His father was still hovering around, of course, alternating between snapping orders at him and berating him, but he wasn't listening to it quite as much as he normally would... he was starting to feel bolder and could feel himself getting angry. He had still clammed up quite a bit, but at this point, he was determined not to let his father make him feel as worthless as he always did.

So with his slowly developing defiant attitude, he ventured out of his room... and into the living room, where he found his clearly distraught friend. Thanks to his own morning, he had suspicions as soon as he laid eyes on the other boy, and the concern was apparent in his face.

"Neil?"

Likely curse or not, Neil hadn't moved-- still clinging to one wall, eyes focused on a patch of nothingness. They darted over to Todd when the other boy spoke, and he tried to muster a small smile, sliding cautiously towards his friend, not quite willing to take a step in his invisible father's direction. His gaze flicked back periodically to that fixed point. Neil moved warily, clearly nervous, even if he ought to know better.

"You don't see him, do you." He murmured, once he was within a few feet of where Todd stood.

Todd shook his head meekly, glancing over the patch of nothingness that was disturbing Neil. He glanced back over his shoulder, seeing that his own father had made a reappearance and sighed.

"No..." He was still looking at his father when he began to speak in a soft mumble, turning back to Neil after a moment, "It's... I think it's a curse."

He looked behind him again, trying to remind himself of that in the face of the disapproving scowl that judged him from the corner.
